Dangers of EMF

Dangers of EMF Exposure

Table of Contents

There’s a hidden danger lurking in your home, at the gym, your office…even in your pocket!

As if there wasn’t enough in this world to worry about, it turns out that we’ve been recklessly dosing ourselves for decades with a constant barrage of a wide range of electromagnetic fields, often called EMF for short.

This post talks about Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) and:

○  Common sources of EMF in your household

○  The risks of EMF exposure

○  How to protect you and your loved ones from EMF exposure

Let’s dive right in.

What is EMF?

EMF is a form of radiation combined of both electric and magnetic fields. Electric fields are formed by voltage. When electrons travel through a wire, voltage is the force propelling them along, just as pressure is the force that moves water through a pipe. As voltage increases, so does the electric field. So we measure the strength of an electric field in volts per meter (V/m).

Magnetic fields are formed by electric currents. Whereas voltage measures the strength of the flow of an electric charge, current measure the frequency or rate of that flow past a point in an electric circuit. Magnetic fields are measured in microteslas (one millionth of a tesla).

So every electric circuit produces a variable amount of this form of radiation that we call electromagnetic fields, or EMF.

Radiation can be a scary word, so what does this mean exactly?

Well, there is a whole spectrum of electromagnetic radiation.

Electromagnetic Spectrum

The really high frequency end of the spectrum, which includes forms of radiation such as gamma rays, x-rays and UV light are well known to possess ionizing properties that can damage tissues and DNA, causing burns, organ damage, and cancer.

The EMF frequencies that we’re talking about generally live in the low frequency range of the spectrum, ranging from 3 kilohertz (3 kHz, or 3,000 Hz) to 300 gigahertz (300 GHz, or 300 billion Hz).

Sources of EMF

So what’s the big deal? Well, as it happens most of the technology that we take for granted as part of the modern landscape is constantly exposing all of us to various strength electromagnetic fields.

According to the NIH, some of the top offenders include:

  • Cell phones
  • Wi-Fi networks
  • Overhead powerlines
  • Computers
  • Photocopiers
  • Any smart or bluetooth enabled device
  • Televisions
  • Airplane travel
  • Baby monitors
  • Refrigerators
  • Fluorescent lighting
  • Transformers

Any of those sound familiar? The point is, we are all being pretty much constantly exposed to some form or another of EMF.

So What are EMF Dangers?

For decades now, people living in EMF hot spots, such as in close proximity to power lines or near cell towers have complained of noticeable differences in their health.

Some common symptoms that are believed to be associated with chronic or high dose EMF exposure include:

  • Brain Fog
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Dementia
  • Autism
  • Paresthesias (weird sensory symptoms, like burning)
  • Adrenal dysregulation
  • Muscle aches
  • Cardiovascular symptoms (such as arrhythmia or tachycardia)
  • Increased cancer risk

Studies on EMF dangers have been all over the place. Some studies have shown correlations between chronic EMF exposure and terrible outcomes, like increased childhood leukemia prevalence, while other studies have proven inconclusive.

One of the challenges facing scientists was that we couldn’t identify a clear biological mechanism as to how electromagnetic fields could impact our physiology. We’re not talking about ionizing radiation, such as that found in x-rays or gamma rays, and EMF’s don’t “cook” our tissues like with a sunburn from UV exposure.

It wasn’t until relatively recently that a researcher named Dr. Martin Pall, PhD was able to make some critical connections. As with many discoveries, it almost seems obvious in hindsight. We’ve been talking a lot about electromagnetic fields, which are produced by differentials in charges. You know what else runs on differentials in charges and is therefore highly susceptible to EMFs?

…the human nervous system.

Not to geek out on you too much, but long story short, the vast majority of processes in our body depend upon the movement of charged particles across cell membranes. We spend a surprising amount of our daily energy expenditure carefully maintaining charge gradients across these cell membranes. That way, when it’s time to make something happen, we can basically open a channel in the membrane, and the electric differentials will cause these charged particles to either rush in or out of the cell (usually both at the same time), which triggers all kinds of other cellular responses and downstream actions.

As it so happens, one of the triggers that frequently opens these channels is voltage. Typically our nervous system will send an electro-chemical signal through a neural pathway until the voltage of this signal becomes great enough that it triggers the opening of voltage-gated channels.

It turns out that exogenous electromagnetic fields are also able to trigger these voltage-gated channels. It also just so happens that we have a particularly large number of voltage-gated channels in our nervous system, and in cardiac tissue.

What Dr. Pall discovered is that EMF radiation can trigger these voltage-gated channels, causing a large influx of calcium ions to rush into the cells. This unexpected influx of calcium causes all sorts of unwanted cellular responses.

In particular, it triggers the release of the peroxynitrite radical (which can be pretty nasty in its own right), which then goes on to form reactive nitrogen species and hydroxyl radicals. These free radicals can then cause chain reactions that can result in inflammation, cellular damage, and can even damage DNA.

Obviously, that’s bad.

So what can you do to protect yourself from the dangers of EMF?

EMF Radiation Protection

The good news is that some of your exposure risk is controllable. For starters, think about everything in your home or office that communicates wirelessly.

While certainly convenient, all of these devices give off considerable EMF radiation. If possible, consider switching from bluetooth to hard wired connections wherever possible.

Consider getting rid of your wifi, and switching to a hard-wired ethernet connection. Turn off devices when not in use, and switch your phone to airplane mode when possible.

Stop carrying your phone in your pocket!

The tissues most sensitive to EMF exposure include:

  • Cardiac tissue
  • Nervous system

  • Gonadal tissue.

That’s right fellas- EMF exposure has been shown to reduce sperm production and motility.

No bueno.

The bad news is that while you have some level of control, it’s almost impossible to eliminate EMF exposure completely.

Airplane travel alone subjects you to very high levels of EMF exposure. And cell phone use has also been correlated with some pretty nasty consequences.

As the wireless networks increasingly switch over to a 5G network, the levels of ambient electromagnetic frequency radiation are only going to increase.

Fortunately, there is good news…enter Vital Reaction. (cue Rocky music)

At Vital Reaction we specialize in an exciting new line of molecular hydrogen (H2) products. If you haven’t heard of molecular hydrogen yet, you will soon. With over 1000 research studies demonstrating antioxidantanti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties, molecular hydrogen is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting new areas of health research.

Relevant to our discussion here, molecular hydrogen has been shown to selectively target the peroxynitrite and hydroxyl free radicals that have been correlated with EMF exposure. If you’re worried about the dangers of EMF (and frankly, we probably all should be), then it’s definitely worth exploring how adding our molecular hydrogen tablets to your routine can help to mitigate damage from EMF exposure.

Do you have any thoughts about the dangers of EMF exposure?

Are you concerned about the implementation of 5G?
